6 Powerful Ways to Shift Your Mindset (Starting Today!)

Writer: Tzuf GurTzuf Gur

There are countless techniques to help shift your mindset, but honestly, I believe the most important thing is to first believe that you can change it! Because no matter how many methods you try, if deep down you don’t think change is possible, I hate to break it to you—but they won’t work.

But hey, believing that change is possible is already a mindset shift in itself! So, what comes first—the belief or the change? It’s a bit like the chicken and the egg, isn’t it?

Regardless of where you are in your journey, today I want to share some ideas to help you shift your mindset. And if you struggle with believing that change is possible, start by focusing on that first!

Here are some ways to work on your mindset:

1. Make Lists

Challenge yourself by writing lists related to the mindset you want to shift. For example, if you struggle with believing you can change, try making lists like:

  • Things I Have Changed in My Life

  • Things I’m Proud of Myself For

  • Why I Don’t Believe I Can Change

  • What Can Help Me Change My Mindset

Writing things down makes them more tangible, and seeing your own words on paper can be a powerful tool for transformation.

2. Pay Attention to Your Self-Talk

First, simply notice how you talk to yourself. What do you say when things go wrong? What do you tell yourself about your abilities? Then, when you catch a thought you’d like to change, ask yourself:

  • Why do I think this way?

  • What led me to believe this?

  • Do I want to continue thinking this?

Once you answer these questions, challenge your old beliefs and start replacing them with new, more empowering thoughts. The more you practice, the more natural this shift will become.

3. Journaling

Writing down your thoughts, feelings, and experiences can help bring clarity and awareness to your mindset. Our minds are constantly running in different directions, and journaling allows you to slow down and process your thoughts in a meaningful way.

You don’t have to overcomplicate it—just take a few minutes each day to write about how you feel, what happened, or what you're grateful for. Over time, you might notice patterns and insights that help guide your mindset shift.

4. Talk It Out

When we express our thoughts out loud—whether to a trusted friend, a coach, or even just ourselves—it slows down the whirlwind of thoughts in our minds. Often, simply verbalizing our feelings can bring new realizations that we might not have had if we only kept them inside.

Find someone who listens without judgment, and allow yourself to explore your thoughts through conversation.

5. Shift Your Focus

Many times, our mindset is shaped by where we automatically place our focus. If you constantly focus on what’s going wrong, your mind will naturally reinforce that perspective. But what happens when you intentionally shift your focus to things that empower you?

Take a moment to reflect:

  • Where is my focus right now?

  • Why am I focusing on this?

  • Where do I want to direct my focus?

By becoming aware of your focus and actively choosing to direct it toward what serves you, you can create a more positive and growth-oriented mindset.

6. Affirmantra – Rewriting Your Thoughts

Affirmantra is a tool I created to help shift thought patterns, and if you’ve attended one of my webinars, you already know how powerful it can be!

Here’s how you can try it yourself:

  • Identify a thought you want to change.

  • Decide what you want to replace it with.

  • Create a short, positive statement that reflects this new belief.

  • Write it down somewhere visible and repeat it to yourself (preferably out loud) at least three times a day for at least three weeks.

Consistency is key—your brain needs time to embrace this new way of thinking! The more you say it, the more it becomes part of you.

Shifting your mindset isn’t about flipping a switch overnight—it’s about small, consistent changes that add up over time. Start with one or two of these ideas and notice how they impact your thoughts. And remember, the most important belief to hold onto is that change is possible!

What has helped you shift your mindset? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
